Mats and subfloor

Most academies have thin mats laid directly over concrete. This is the "standard" setup for most, but Kraken Jiu Jitsu wants better for you and your family.

The mats you train on are important. Kraken Jiu Jitsu has invested heavily in this area. Kraken's full mat area has a Fuji spring subfloor. This is the same subfloor you will find at the best Judo academies in the world. The spring subfloors are designed to help protect Judokas from the impact of being thrown to the ground over and over again. These subfloors are expensive and relatively difficult to install; this is part of the reason no other academy around has them. However, you and your kids deserve the best. Kraken wants to maximize safety and reduce the risk of injury regardless of the cost.

Kraken Jiu Jitsu's mats are premium, white colored, Fuji mats. These are the best mats you can buy. White mats were chosen because you can't hide anything on white.  If the mats are dirty it will be easy to see. These mats are regularly cleaned and sanitized to protect students from germs, viruses, skin infections, etc. Most academies have dark colored mats. It's impossible to tell if they are soiled. 

Training environment

Training BJJ can be rigorous and difficult. The last thing you need is to be surrounded by "mat bullies", thugs, or people wearing smelly uniforms. We have rules and we enforce them.
