Academy rules

Uniform wear

Kraken Jiu Jitsu Academy has a dress code. This dress code helps to ensure a safe and positive training environment.

  • Members and visitors alike will wear a white gi on the mats.
  • Rash guards will be worn under the gi jacket.
  • Members will wear appropriate school patches on the front and the back of the Gi jacket.
  • Only clean, unsoiled gi's are allowed. Smelly, stained, or tattered gi's are forbidden.
    • Gi's are available to rent for a class ($20).
  • Members will wear black rashguards and black shorts for no gi training. Spats and spandex shorts can be worn so long as black shorts are worn as well.

Hygiene

Proper personal hygiene is required to maintain a safe and healthy training environment for all.

  • Students will shower prior to arriving to class.
  • Finger and toe nails will be properly clipped and filed to help prevent scratches.
  • Avoid wearing excessive makeup.
  • Do not train after spray tanning. These sprays will stain mats and gi's.
  • Avoid wearing excessive perfume/cologne
  • Clean the bottom of your feet before class and do not ever walk barefoot off the mats.

Etiquette

It is imperative that we maintain a positive training environment at all times. We are here to work hard, develop skills, and become better version of ourselves.

  • No profanity.
  • No bullying.
  • All clothing and uniform items must be family-friendly.
  • Allow senior students and instructors to pick their own training partners. This means not asking them to roll.
  • You have the right to decline a roll with anyone. It is wise to be selective with your training partners.
  • Show up early and be dressed and ready to begin at class start time.
  • Get changed in changing rooms only.
  • Be kind to everyone but especially to white belts; they are the future of our sport.
